Greece emerged as a distinguished partner, through its dynamic representation in the Indian tourism market by FedHATTA and HATTA, during India’s leading international hospitality awards event, 18th Annual Hospitality India Travel Awards 2023, which took place on 24 November in New Delhi.

The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of Greece to India, Dimitris Ioannou, the President of GNTO, Angela Gerekou, who spoke via an online connection while HATTA and FedHATTA were represented by the member of the Board of Directors of the Association, Theodoros Makris.

The distinction of Greece as a top tourist destination for Indian travelers is a product of successive initiatives undertaken by HATTA and FedHATTA over the last decade, which resulted in the opening of a large inbound tourism market for our country.

In the context of these initiatives, HATTA and FedHATTA, as early as 2014, have participated with their own stand in the tourism exhibitions of India, promoting the multidimensional Greek tourist product to professionals and travelers of the Indian market. And in parallel, taking the initiative to organize fam trips to Greek destinations especially for Indian tourism professionals, so that the latter can discover Greek tourism as a whole and its possibilities. Since then, the systematic and close cooperation with the respective associations of travel agents in India has resulted in the signing of Cooperation Agreements (with OTOAI and TAFI), and the realization of a series of informative webinars, which aimed to strengthen the mutual effort to increase tourist flows between the two countries.

As stated by the Indian organizers of the awards, the purpose of the evening was to recognize the leaders in the Indian hospitality industry by awarding accolades to the largest hotels and most innovative tourism infrastructure across India. With a key tagline of ‘Embracing Excellence & Honoring Greatness’, the awards were based on the exemplary level of hospitality provided to travelers by hotel establishments that elevate India’s tourism product, in niche categories.

India is a large tourism market with great potential for Greek tourism, with Greece being among the top tourist destinations of choice for its travelers. The systematic and dynamic presence of our country at every tourism exhibition in India receives distinctions and becomes a meeting point for both tourism professionals and the traveling public.
